Needham Drops Fresh New Single ‘Bout It’

needham.jpg

Among the talent of Western Sydney’s uprising hip hop culture comes a young rapper named Needham, fresh as he is authentic. Continuing the momentum built from the success of his last few releases, Needham returns with an unapologetically addictive new single called ‘Bout It’.

Over a celestial ambience embellished with dystopian beats and cutthroat lyrics, ‘Bout It’ is a matter-of-fact account of Needham’s observations on the Hip Hop scene and the people in his life.

On the single Needham said, “Throughout my life I’ve met a lot of people who say one thing and do another, promise the world but never follow through. This was my chance to call them out and also telling myself and my crew that I am really ‘Bout It’ and I’m in this for the long haul.”

The accompanying visuals for ‘Bout It’ were filmed on a rooftop in downtown Los Angeles where Needham and his crew were working on their upcoming EP. Fitting for the LA vibe, the music video is an embodiment of what Needham is all about, capturing his natural and infectious energy.

Hailing from the burrows of Western Sydney, the young rapper first jumped onto the scene in 2015 with his debut mixtape ‘Welcome Myself’, immediately garnering attention from the Australian hip hop community. Soon enough, Needham caught the eye of independent record label ‘Crooked City’, seeing him through further releases, countless local shows, and securing a spot supporting Jarren Benton’s (USA) Australian tour.

Having recently returned from LA with a catalogue of new music and videos set to drop this year, keep watch of Needham for upcoming material which is guaranteed to offer a slew of quality beats and bars.

KNOE Returns With His Soul-Searching EP ‘Reasons’

Knoe Press Shot 3.jpg

In a world increasingly designed to evade the perpetual search for answers, Perth rapper KNOE asks all the unsparing questions in his latest EP ‘Reasons’, an artistic journey of inquiry littered with figments of passion, anxiety, love, and realisations.

Inspired by the dusty vinyl crackle and swingy drums, KNOE paints picturesque, and sometimes shocking imagery of anxiety, love, crime, and the polarising thoughts of an independent artist in a world pressured by consumerism and money.

Of the EP KNOE says, “Every song stands alone as its own thing. But they all point to one overarching theme, the reasons behind action, and the common questions of life – What is the reason for doing what we do every day? Are we happy? Are we doing what we want to do?”

“Mostly I think it represents a change in my life, a prequel to the next episode. I hope people enjoy it for what it is and take from it whatever they want, but I hope in some way the music helps them question something, whatever that may be.”

In a fortifying infusion of modern production and classic hip hop, the EP features eerie nostalgic beats over a biblical cadence that encapsulates the heart and soul of hip hop. With features from the likes of Drapht, Retch, Sambo and Paloma, ‘Reasons’ offers a rich tapestry of sounds and subtle poetic flexes delivered by KNOE’s clever word-play that melt like butter over the obscurity of unique samples.

After working with Grammy Award winning producer !llmind, KNOE has been building his unique sound whilst increasingly becoming a notable artist in Australia’s music scene. His catalogue of features include tracks with Skyzoo and Torae, and has also supported the likes of Action Bronson, David Dallas, Remi, and Spit Syndicate.

Although ‘Reasons’ stands on it’s own as a body of work, the young rapper has said that it’s been a “creative tool for something bigger, the calm before the storm”. Having already built a strong following and foundation, KNOE is on the rise to becoming one of Australia’s most inventive artists.

Dstnce challenges the future with ‘Notes From The Underground’ EP

Hailing from Melbourne, emerging rapper/producer Dstnce challenges the future with ‘Notes From The Underground’ EP.

Unearthing his deepest and darkest thoughts, Dstnce’s EP is influenced by television shows ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’ and ‘Black Mirror’. The EP features artists’ such as DJ Paypercuttz, Goretex and Aye One. Dstnce’s eerie underground EP will have listeners questioning the world as we see it, proposing what life would be like if Melbourne was under the control of an authoritarian regime in the future.

Dstnce is coming up quickly from the underground to make his name in the current Australian musicsphere.

On why he chose to go with this theme, Dstnce said, “Some of my favourite records are concept albums. I grew up listening to joints like Disposable Arts by Masta Ace & Black Trash by Sticky Fingaz of Onyx. I haven’t really heard any Australian concept records, so why not,”

Demonstrating his lyrical mastery and fresh production skills, ‘Notes From The Underground’ not only exhibits his ability to construct compelling music but also his punchy vocal delivery.

Dstnce aka Torin is part of hip hop duo Headlines, a Melbourne based duo consisting of himself and Aye One which was first established in 2015. His latest EP showcases how creativity runs through his veins as he orchestrates an experimental sound that oozes with elements of Hip Hop.

Casa X Drops New Killer Single ‘100 Faces’

Building the anticipation with another release from his upcoming album, Sydney rapper CASA X once again shows off his lyrical versatility and melodious hip-hop hooks in the title track ‘100 Faces’.

Written after performing at a festival for a wild crowd of over 100 faces, the track is about the cognitive dissonance felt after being worshipped and loved on stage, to becoming another face in the crowd once finishing a set.

Of the track CASA X says, “Once we had finished our set it all went back to normal as if nothing ever happened on stage. I wanted the chorus to capture that emotion I was feeling, from once being on stage to then feeling part of that crowd.”

Produced by Marvelouz, ‘100 Faces’ is a live-sounding track that features moody guitar riffs and sharp percussion, creating a dark and emotive vibe that compliments the conceptual metaphors used to portray CASA X’s sombre realisations.

Influenced by the sound of live music, CASA X says “I want people to feel a vibe they may of experienced at a bar during an era when live music was booming. At the same time I didn’t want the music to take away from the lyrics and what’s being said”.

The versatile hip hop artist is steadily gaining a reputation for his lyrical excellence and humble storytelling. CASA X seeks to break through his own skin when he writes, lacing his art with double entendres and nostalgic epiphones, whilst playing the role of devil on your shoulder, or deeper, the doubtful and lonely voice echoing in the back of your head.

Expect to hear more rawness and indelicate honesty in CASA X’s upcoming album ‘100FACES’, which is slated for release later this year.

KNOE Drops Heat On ‘Juice’

Driven by the liberating realisations of his own artistic journey, Perth rapper KNOE releases ‘Juice’, a hip-hop track enriched with soul vibes and humbling lyrics from his upcoming ‘Reasons’ EP.

Influenced by a rough day, a pack of cigarettes and a few bottles of wine, ‘Juice’ is about staying true to your moral compass and never changing who you are to appease others. The song explores the enigmatic struggle of being an artist in the modern day and our fixation on success that consequently distorts the reasons for creating.

KNOE says, “There was a point in time where I thought that making music was a useless dream because I wasn’t as successful as others, and it was a long journey of ups and downs before I truly started creating for the right reasons, Again.”

Written as an ode to the juice of his inspiration, KNOE says that “No matter how big or small your contribution is in the wonderful world of music, it’s nice to take a step back and remember that creating anything is a blessing.”

The track features the delicate vocals of Sensible Boys Club lead singer Paloma backed by gentle New York style melodies, forming a warm and captivating sound that serves as the perfect platter for KNOE’s relishing rhymes.

After working with Grammy Award winning producer !llmind, KNOE has been building his unique sound whilst increasingly becoming a notable artist in Australia’s music scene. His catalogue of features include tracks with Skyzoo, Torae, and Perth’s own Drapht. He’s also supported the likes of Action Bronson, David Dallas, Remi, and Spit Syndicate.

KNOE’s his forthcoming ‘Reasons’ EP is slated for release in August, where you can expect to hear more of his clever balance of warm rhythmic flows and aggressive bars.

thraxxy1.jpg

She’s the quirky firecracker from Sydney who has been creeping up the sidelines of the scene for a hot minute, now Australian Fijian Thraxxy returns with a new single dripping with confidence, sauce and a candy-flip of grim cheeky lyrics on ‘Smoke, Liquor’ produced Hazy.

Armed with two bottles of vodka and bad orange juice, ‘Smoke, Liquor’ is filled with thick heavy beats and is about people working hard to make a living to only spend it on things that get them to the grave quicker.

“Seeing people go out and spend more than what I would make in a week on just one night out and then somehow managing to adjust back into the reality of work or parent mode, only to repeat it over and over again seemed like a weird concept once you sit back and think about it. We work to live and reward ourselves with things that could potentially kill us,”

and Harmony’ as one half of the dynamic brother sister duo ‘Bustacap’, Thraxxy is back armed with witty one liners and sticky hooks leaving you craving more.

Experimental Rap Duo Violet Houses Drop Single ‘Keys to the Horse’

violet.jpg

Experimental rap duo Violet Houses release their immensely creative lead single ‘Keys to the Horse’ from upcoming EP of the same calibre, ‘Aliens Aliens Aliens’.

Intentionally unconventional, the single and its music video embodies a parallel universe that challenges normality and explores the interdimensional alter egos of Violet Houses. It’s filled with unnecessarily convoluted metaphors that are accompanied by equally as complex visuals leaving you questioning reality and feeling intrigued.

On the single, the duo said, “I hope we’ve created something escapist. A different dimension to explore – that was the goal. That and to create something as enigmatic and freaky as we are.”

Violet Houses is a collaborative project formed by Melbourne rapper and producer Fresh Violetand Brisbane multi-instrumentalist and producer Card Houses. Each a master of their own artistry, side-by-side as Violet Houses the duo breaks through the constructs of common sound by exploring the outer limits of pop music.

Since a few solid releases over the past couple years, Fresh Violet has stapled herself as one of the most promising female artists in Australia’s hip-hop scene. Her signature sound and contagious attitude is what makes her unique and addictive to watch, amassing an organic fanbase that treasures her individuality.

Meanwhile, since entering the rap scene in 2017, Card Houses is quickly building a reputation for their production skills and instrumental prowess. The non-binary artist’s aim is to win over the hearts and minds of the world through a cocktail of intangible weirdness and over-the-top cutesiness, which is ever so enjoyable to watch in the ‘Keys to the Horse’ music video.

As far as influences go, Violet Houses’ inspirations stem from a deliberate variety of styles demonstrated by artists like Tyler the Creator, Aesop Rock and Erykah Badu. The vibe of ‘Keys to the Horse’ is very much an exploration of braggadocio turned absurdism.

Violet Houses’ debut EP ‘Aliens Aliens Aliens’ is in equal parts an art project, science experiment and space exploration which is slated for release later this month.
